GSA Submittal Question

Coin FinderCoin Finder Posts: 7,480 ✭✭✭✭✭
Hi everyone, I wanted to submit a bunch of coins economy and wondered if I can send in the GSA coin in the holder (no box) and will PCGS then put GSa on the holder or do I have to submit separate?

Thanks

In most cases you gain nothing by having PCGS break the coin out of the GSA gov't holder
to put it in PCGS plastic. Yes, PCGS will put GSA on label but you will lose dollars, in my
    opinion.
Most GSA collectors want the coin in the original packaging with box and cert(s).
NGC will grade them in the present gov't holder if you prefer to have them graded.

    Good luck,

Yes Bob I know, but this coin is a strong DMPL and quite possiblly a 64 plus shot 65. Most collectors when buying just call it a "63" to get the price down.

Ok, I'll go with that. DMPL is one exception. DMPL in PCGS plastic is a better bet than
    DMPL in GSA plastic.

DMPL's in GSA boxes bring more money than PCGS. Have it graded by NGC. Check Heritage results to see
    for yourself

1883's NGC 65DMPL in GSA holder sell for around 1800- 2000 check that against PCGS 65's. Very bad advice to crack it.

I am not a NGC member, I prefer PCGS even if it brings less money, I think they are better company and long term will be a better investment. I may keep the coin, probably will. Thanks however for you kind words.

Do as you choose. I will say you cracking out a DMPL GSA to have it graded only makes all of mine in the GSA holders worth that much more. I hope more think like you and crck them out.

Are you an ANA member; if so, you can submit to NGC without any fees to join.

Yes actually a life member, came in during the era of the attorney who ran things and then was elected out. I had forgotten that NGC offers this.

then tell them to hit the road...or pay the price,..... you know what it is and they know what it is..... put a price on it and stick to your gun's, if they want it bad enough they'll come thru.

Everytime a GSA holder is destroyed, a kitten dies somewhere. Don't do it.

Ok I decided to not crack it. Nice DMPL though 1883 cc, the polishing lines are so prominent on the reverse that it look like a star-burst.

The worst part is that I can see myself telling this to someone as well! But collecting GSA's have a way of doing that to us..........
