Ebay dispute question

How long do you wait before you open a dispute with Ebay? Scenario: I purchased raw off of ebay (I know image ) but made sure to use paypal and the seller accepted returns. I paid promptly and received the coins approximately 1 week after payment. Out of the 2 coins I received 1 was cleaned and the other was fake (made out of tin, weight was way off). I emailed the seller same day and advised him what I had found and that I was returning the coins. I then waited for a reply. 3 days later I received a reply, "send them back at your cost". I sent the coins USPS priority mail, insured, with signature conformation. The coins have been at his post office for 2 days and 2 notices have been left at his residence.

Should I open a dispute now or wait until the coins are either claimed or sent back? I do not want to blast the seller on the forum yet. If the coins come back I will be happy to disclose any and all information.

I agree. email or call. You don't know for sure that notices were left.
  • I'm sorry I didnt add that. I email him the first day and let hin know that the coins were at his post office. No reply.

  • I would wait 7 days after they made the 1st delivery attempt. Then, if no response from the seller, file an Ebay dispute claim. An email on day 4 would help your case also. He might have been away for a long w/e

yes, give more time. It's too early to be totally bent, although I understand the worry.

you can always try calling. I've done that successfully a few times, and when it was not successful it was helpful in the dispute.

Yeah, Tom, give the seller a little more time. He seems to take his sweet time responding to e-mails... Wait a week or so and then file a dispute. Maybe that'll light a fire under his butt.

File a dispute now, it's a two-part process, the first of which requires you to resolve it with the seller. It should kick him into action, and it's not a big deal (it's not like leaving a neg).

  • Thanx guys. This is the first time I have had a problem with anything I purchased on ebay. Then again this is the first time i purchased anything raw off of ebay.

5 days, If not response from seller. I open a PayPal dispute. It usually gets them motivated.

If it does not well you probably going to have a problem. I've gotten coins from Hawaii in 4 days.

There is no excuse for wasted time on a sellers part. A simple email/message reply takes 30 seconds if there will be a delay.

I've ran into a bunch of problems lately with bullion buys from eBay.

Be patient. I often don't get to the PO to check my PO box once or twice a week. Plus remember that this is spring break time and maybe he isn't home this week. There is a pretty decent sized window to file a dispute with ebay. Keep that window in mind. If no response within a day of the end of that window, then open the dispute.
  • Window is 30 days.....I wouldn't give more than 7 from the first delivery attempt

What has happened to patience in the world? You're going to win the dispute. Give the person time to make the win a slam-dunk.
Savor it, enjoy it. Let the Post Office return them to you as "UNCLAIMED". Now that's proof!

I returned a classic raw coin to an ebayer a few years back. I called him directly and everything worked out. I don't buy raw anymore on ebay except moderns.
