Ebay dispute question

How long do you wait before you open a dispute with Ebay? Scenario: I purchased raw off of ebay (I know
) but made sure to use paypal and the seller accepted returns. I paid promptly and received the coins approximately 1 week after payment. Out of the 2 coins I received 1 was cleaned and the other was fake (made out of tin, weight was way off). I emailed the seller same day and advised him what I had found and that I was returning the coins. I then waited for a reply. 3 days later I received a reply, "send them back at your cost". I sent the coins USPS priority mail, insured, with signature conformation. The coins have been at his post office for 2 days and 2 notices have been left at his residence.
Should I open a dispute now or wait until the coins are either claimed or sent back? I do not want to blast the seller on the forum yet. If the coins come back I will be happy to disclose any and all information.

you can always try calling. I've done that successfully a few times, and when it was not successful it was helpful in the dispute.

If it does not well you probably going to have a problem. I've gotten coins from Hawaii in 4 days.
There is no excuse for wasted time on a sellers part. A simple email/message reply takes 30 seconds if there will be a delay.
I've ran into a bunch of problems lately with bullion buys from eBay.

Savor it, enjoy it. Let the Post Office return them to you as "UNCLAIMED". Now that's proof!
