2nd March Special Submission Popped: Awesome!

My second March Special submission (1964 - present) popped today and it is one of my best ever. 53 cards, 23 9's, 3 10's, mostly 1960's cards. Haven't received a 10 on a card from the 1960's in several years. 1964 PSA 10 Cubs Team is 1/1. Plus a 1968 Gaylord Perry and Jose Pagan got PSA 10s. Mickey Lolich 1964 RC got a 9 and the last card I threw into the order was a 1967 Jim Hunter that got a 9. I was expecting good grades but nothing this good. My only disappointments were three nice 1964 star cards that received N6: minimum size requirement.

  • Congrats, that might be one of the best subs I've ever seen!
From what I can tell, 707 is the DOLLAR STORE compared to deans_cards. For what that guy charges, if I ever bought anything from him I would expect it to be delivered to me in a frickin' limo.

That submission is beyond awesome. I have never had a submission even close to this. I guess I need to change my message board name from 1954 to PSAShane to get these grades.

Thanks for all your encouraging comments. Don't know if a name change will help on the message board but you never know. Actually, these were very nice cards that I have had for awhile, but I must say that I do not assume anymore that what I think is mint meets PSA's criteria. I have had a lot of disappointing submissions in recent years where I anticipated getting a lot of 9's, but didn't. With 10's, I have received so few that I don't even attempt to figure out the difference between a 9 and 10. That is why I was surprised with these grades. They are great cards and I believing deserving of the grades they got, but there are so many small issues with a card that can make it a 7 instead of an 8, or an 8 instead of a 9. Having said all that, I psyched!. They arrived yesterday and look beautiful in those PSA holders!
  • Congratultions.

What I would like to know is, where did you get all those beautiful ungraded cards to submit?

As for MalibuViking's question, the answer may surprise you. Back in 1996 I attended my first National in St. Louis. I somehow ended up at the booth of Mr. Mint ...Allan Rosen. I bought one of his books which he autographed and he started talking about his ability to find "mint" cards. As you can imagine, he was a little overwhelming but what he said made sense to me. There was no one else there so I talked with him for awhile and he convinced me that if you were going to invest in cards, you should always purchase the best grade possible because in the future there will be a wide value discrepency between mint cards and those of lesser condition. From that point on, I always sought out mint condition cards and would purchase duplicates and triplicates if I could find them in that condition. Over the years I have come across some great deals on vending material from the early 1970's. I have also made some large purchases of mid 1960's baseball lots that have made up many of my recent submissions. Sadly, I am running out of nice ones to submit and as everyone knows, finding raw, ungraded cards from the 1950's - early 1970's is very difficult. But the fact remains that many dealers still just want to turn over their collection purchases to recoup their investment and don't go the grading route except on star cards and HOFer's. As you set registry members know, there are many "commons" that have more value than star cards in the same grade. I have done quite well selling high grade PSA 9 commons that I have little $ invested in and were duplicates, and using the money to purchase stars in high grade.

That's a great sub, particularly in light of the tight grading coming out of PSA these days.

Ones like this make me laugh. I guess any card could be trimmed so they have to be safe but I don't know who would be trimming 70's commons. My last sub had a "trimmed" 1975 Topps Bob Apodaca.

excellent results Rich, good for you.....i'm particularly intrigued by your comments about Rosen.....i will always maintain a positive thought towards him despite what others may think, one good thing he did bring to our community is knowledge.

best of luck with those, make some coin. image
