Dennis Eckenrode, R. I. P.

It is with deep sadness that I inform this Forum of Dennis Eckenrode's death. Denny owned and operated Dennis R. Eckenrode Rare Coins in Cleona, PA and set up at several shows including many of the Baltimore shows. Denny was a true numismatist, an honest man, and a good friend. Many deals with Denny, including several big deals, were concluded with a handshake, and his word was always good. He paid fair when he bought, and he sold at fair prices. I learned a tremendous amount from Denny as I started my own coin business, and he was always willing to answer my questions. Our business deals often started with a phone call, and either Denny or I saying "I have something I know you'll be interested in." Those of us who knew Denny will miss him very much.

Good friends are few and far between. Condolences to you and his family. Sounds like a guy I'd
    like to have known.

Thanks for the post, Rich. I didn't know Mr. Eckenrode, but your post made me think about all the helpful, trustworthy people who've helped me grow in this hobby. And reading the obituary reminded me of how special it is to leave a good name. My condolences to Mr. Eckenrode's wife and to the rest of his family, and to his friends.

I wouldn't be surprised if a few of the many good deals you've given me (Seated Quarters and Halves) started with a transaction you and Dennis made.

I had purchased from him on numerous occasions at his shop. Will his son be taking over the business?

I don't know what the plans are for the business, but when eventually it is known, I will provide an update.

  • I am so sorry to hear this. I just read of Denny's passing in the Numismatist.

I spent a lot of time in Denny's shop when I lived in Lebanon, PA. He was a class act! I know this appears to be a late post but having just found out, I apologize for posting now.

He came to my aid during a tough time and for that I will be ever grateful. Denny, REST IN PEACE!
