Yep, a half-kreuzer from the state of Baden, in Germany. That's a fairly popular design and a nice example of it. Without looking at the catalog, I'd say that's worth a few bucks at least.

In Krause's 'German Coins', it is listed with mintage 298,000 and $2 VF, $10 XF and $35 Unc. Looks good, even with the pixalated scans.image
Still thinking of what to put in my signature...

From what years were these minted?
  • Options
These were minted from 1859-1871 (with the exception of 1868-1869)

I think I'm going to try to get every date. This should be fun and interesting. Are there any varieties?

This particular variety of 1/2 Kreuzer was as he says struck from 1859 to 1871 minus only the 1869. However the 1/2 kreuzer was struck from 1803 until 1871. There are eleven different varieties through those years. None appear to be to rare in fine condition. Would make an interesting set to complete. Good luck.

Yes- 11 varieties for United Baden Line starting in 1803, although my German Krause does not have dates listed for this particular type (KM#241) in 1868 and 1869...
If you want to collect all the Baden 1/2 Kreuzers, there is also 5 additional varieties for Baden (Durlach) Line:
    KM#70- 1733 (Silver uniface), KM#87- 1741 (Silver uniface), KM#97- 1749-1750 (Billon uniface), KM#113- ND & 1766 (Copper), KM#124- 1772 (Copper)
    Good hunting!

I hope these coins aren't pricey, I'm no money bags.

Max $60 for the earlier Durlach's, the KM#241 like yours is the most valuable in 1870 where it is listed for $125 in unc.
I'd be glad to give you the other KM #'s for the United Baden Line's if you'd like...
    Let me know,
    Jim

Besides ebay, do you have any suggestions where to purchase some? I don't have any local coin stores.image

Sure, if you don't mind waiting up to 2 weeks to get your coin, there are many dealers in Germany mostly who have many of these:
