Has this Coin been Doctored?

I recognize that images from HA.com are not always great, but they are all I have to work with. The older images are small and difficult to decipher, but again, that's all I have to work with. There's a coin in an upcoming HA.com auction that formerly sold in 2002 in a different holder (same company, same grade, just a different cert number). To me, the coin looks like it was lightened in color. Maybe it's just the way old HA.com photos look, I don't know. Just makes me suspicious and more likely to stay away from the auction. The pics are all I could get out of the HA.com search for the old (2002) auction. And yes, I recognize that if I even considered bidding on this coin that I would be best served by having a trusted agent check it out...that's just common sense.

I doubt it. Just two different lighting systems.

Are there any smaller pictures available to help judge?

Most Heritage images from 2002 were scans, not digital photos, so that adds another level of interpretation to this coin.

Richard, my guess is that the coin has not been lightened. Frequently, when Heritage includes two sets of images of the same coin, one is considerably lighter than the other. And the differences are often as great as or greater than that seen in the images you posted.

We hear many complaints about HA.com images these days...but you see what was available to work with in 2002!

I think it's just lighting. Note how the slab and the coin is darker in the Heritage images and lighter in the 2010 images.
