Saw First PCGS + Coin on Collectors Corner

FYI, I saw my first PCGS + coin on Collector's Corner today. It was an 1873 Seated Dollar from Legend's new group. Coin is graded MS-65+ and looks like a monster.

They need a bigger bar code, I can still see a few millimeters of space on either side of the current one.

If the images of the Proof Barber Quarter are even close to accurate, I think it will serve as a good example of the concept that highly appealing coins will sell just fine, even without a plus designation. And I believe that those saying that all of their coins have declined in value due to the announcement, are overreacting, big time.

according to what HRH stated, there are anti-counterfiet elements built into the shield so i wouldn't expect any China fakes.

Did PCGS deliberately leave that blank area on the right side of the label in order to accomodate the CAC sticker ? Maybe I should ask that on the Secure Plus thread image

Now that PCGS extended their ID code, there is no room for CAC stickers without covering some digits. Maybe that was the plan all along.image

I still think the PCGS + coins will sell better, and for more money, with the CAC sticker. With matching SecurePlus and Gold CAC sticker, the coin should garner moon money.

If there is a + coin with a gold sticker, someone got it wrong.

  • and to think that Gradeflation™ will be stopped now that we have the +/ SecurePlus™ on PCGS coins.

I saw the coin zine that I received today- did anyone take a gander at the new + pricing on these particular coins in the price guide?

Did anyone notice a 'slight' increase of these particular coins in the grade they were in before the new/re-holder of the same coins?

Are we to believe that this 'Big One' will actually resolve what many have said in the past about grading being an opinion?

Scanning/ lasering a coin to potentially stop a fraudulent act of the item is good- if it can actually be proven through scientific findings, but to be honest, this duck is not quacking like all other ducks do.

Something is amiss and many here might get into the same hype as they did about CAC when it first evolved.

remember there is no guarantee now on copper- how will that fair for the new standard that is about to be set?

just an average collector noticing strange financial things.

There will be many collectors who will expect a "+" on the grade before they will pay a PQ price for a coin.

I agree with you. But there will be many others who will pay a PQ price for a great looking coin, regardless of whether it has a plus designation or not. And that means things will probably be very much like they have been.

I have always found that those who buy by the sheet are among the least knowledgable collectors out there. The real knockout primos always go to those who have vast amounts of knowledge and EXPERIENCE, thus, also, the knockout collections. They reap if they ever decide to sell. The skinflints get the lowball and subpar prices for their lowball and subpar collections.
