Reminds me of the first PSA graded baseball card, the T206 Honus Wagner with serial #0000001. Of course the inaugural slabbing is going to be a monster collectible. How much buzz would there be if the first "+" coin were a 1995 Jefferson Nickel???
<< <i>If that's correct, I sure wish the first plus coin had belonged to a collector and not been such a high profile coin. >>
Yes, it was the first 68+ coin we graded, but not the first Secure Plus coin.
And no, this was not rigged. That's a pretty rude statement from someone who obviously did not read the OP very carefully.

Worry is the interest you pay on a debt you may not owe.
"Paper money eventually returns to its intrinsic value---zero."----Voltaire

While PCGS may call this marketing, I call this the ultimate showmanship of gradeflation.
Will the coin be a 69.99 with the next new grading revolution?
I have seen this 01-s in person and have examined it- It is an amazing coin.
<< <i>First of all everyone at PCGS thinks this is the finest Barber quarter we've ever seen. And it's a 1901-S !!

When he said riggged, he meant that PCGS didn't just take the next coin in line to be graded but rather searched out a glamor coin to get some headines in the coin rags.
I don't think he was implying there was any funny business with the grade assigned.

Agreed -- that's also my understanding, though "rigged" is a bit of a fighting word.
You never see press releases for "milestone coins" like an 1881-S Morgan in MS-64 is the point.
