Who is the most beneficent coin dealer you know?

Some make this claim, but which coin dealer – living, dead or in between - best fills the bill?

beneficent - doing good or causing good to be done; conferring benefits; kindly in action or purpose.

Julian is a good choice; however, my vote goes to CRO.

Okay here goes. Jack Baymer. He has always been very helpful and sharing of knowledge and takes allot of time with newbees like me. My experience has always been positive and educational.

I can't remember her name, a woman coin dealer - Patton or something?- She always kept the history alive with the hobby and never seamed rushed to really sell anything. She was more into sharing history and coin facts and could explain very technical coin grading/doctoring points in plain easy to follow language.

I don't think many dealers would get a thumbs up across the board. The only dealers I have never heard a bad thing about and are well-known across the national circuit are the Hipps, Kraljevich and Terranova.

I'm assuming you mean Beymer.....if so, that is very ironic. I used to do mail order business with them and sold them a few things, but he pissed me off more than once in person at shows, to the point that I will not do business with them anymore, or even glance at their table.

For great dealers on the national circuit (most of the forum wouldn't know the small local dealers here), Tom Reynolds, Ed and Lance Hipps, and Gary Adkins get my vote. Not sure if QD Bowers still qualifies as an active dealer - he's more like a coin dealer-emeritus. Larry Greenstone seems great also, but I have not met him in person yet. And Glenn Holsonbake is right up there.

I agree on the part about Jack Beymer. He isn't that far from where I live and my experience dealing with him and his wife combined with stories from other collectors and dealers from his area don't often put him in a good light. I've also offered some of my coins to sell him and his offers border on larceny. I won't deal with him and I don't trust him one bit. As another dealer once called him, he's a total weasel.

I nominate John McIntosh from Sacramento and Art McBride from Oregon as favorites of mine. Both are always fair and always treat people right.

I dealt with Jack Beymer for circulated coins for birthday sets etc., as early as in the mid 1970's without any problems but then later on he changed a bit and got more difficult to deal with after 20 plus years.

When I bought a few 1982 no P roosies in the old PCGS holders back around 2002, he RAISED the price BEFORE the expiration of the Coin World ad he advertised them in. This was two days after we agreed on the prices as stated in the ad and when I called him two days later to re-confirm everything, he was unhappy and reneged on me as he was expecting the call from me within 1 day.

I complained to him to no avail. His wife has seen me at shows several times and asked if I want to buy anything and I simply could not tell her why I keep saying no. She is a really nice lady.

He has been sending me his mailing list since then and I simply throw it out.

I will not deal with him again *cannot ever say never). .

Gene Bruder is really nice, has a good selection of fairly priced coins, and enjoys sharing his knowledge.

The Reeded Edge (Robbie) is good to work with too, I think.

Dick Osburn-- totally honest, doesn't use photos but you can trust his descriptions.. that's saying something!
