2010 Upper Deck & PSA grading - Carol?

Will PSA not grade the 2010 Upper Deck baseball cards? Each card says that they are not authorized by MLB.

None have been graded so far. Just curious if they ever will be.

Why wouldn't they ? There are other sets not licensed by MLB that PSA grades. For instance, 1970 Milton Bradley.
I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.

Since the cards were licensed by the MLBPA, I would think PSA would grade them.

I've got one in my current sub at PSA right now... waiting to see what happens with it!

Are you asking because of the void of 2010 Upper Deck in the Pop Report... or did you sub some that popped ungraded?

Personally, I busted a bunch of 2010 UD and condition was generally horrible. Finding a GEM 10 worthy, why else would you sub a current year base card without that expectation, seems pretty tough from my experience. Nearly every card I pulled pack fresh had a print line, or a dinged corner, or a smashed corner, or two flaking corners, or a ding in one of the sides, or a bad side ding on the back, or silver flaking from the card(s) in front of or behind in the pack... overall, very poor condition quality product straight off the shelf. Photography was pretty nice though image
  • I haven't heard that we aren't grading them but I will double check in the morning.

I was planning on sending in a few inserts tomorrow but do not want to waste the time if I am just going to get a NO GRADE VOUCHER due to the lack of specific information.

There are also no 2010 UD listed in the PSA pop report but there are a lot of different insert sets listed from 2010 Topps.
  • I sent this to Bill via PM after asking a question but I will post it here as well....

They may have just not been submitted yet.

It looks like they are allowed to continue selling the 3 issues already out per the settlement of the lawsuit.

"Per the terms of the settlement agreement, Upper Deck has agreed not to use MLB trademarks including team names and/or logos on its trading cards going forward. As such, many of Upper Deck’s scheduled baseball product launches already in the pipeline for 2010 will not be released. However, Upper Deck can continue to sell three recently released baseball products currently on store shelves: 2009 Signature Stars, 2009 Ultimate Collection and 2010 Upper Deck Series One."

So I'm told we will grade these as of right now.

  • Anything else UD does for the calendar year 2010 *IS* licensed by the MLBPA so I think PSA (and BGS and SGC) are very safe grading the cards since one of the entities are licensing the cards AND none of the other sets will have issues.

Since there won't be uniforms; I think the majors are fine grading those cards.

I know this is not a legal opinion but MOO.
