Am I out of touch - GB Penny pricing

Linky

So a 1953 GB Penny currently bid to $100. It's not like it's the only one graded or something, what's up with the price? I figured it for a $25 or so coin, it is graded already and a 65.

Is this a normal price, or registry madness?

s****e and e****e look to be having a bit of a bidding war. This IS a 25.00 coin, NOT a 100.00 coin even in today's environment of higher prices.

I seem to be out of touch on the Red examples-

I think 30-40 is about right - but maybe I am behind the times

Past sales seem to put the MS65RD up a the $50 mark.

The picture is too small, but my gut instinct says it is overgraded.

I would never bid that kind of money on a '53 penny. Let's face it - it's just not that attractive of a design - very poorly struck.

    Edited to add: $146.50. Unreal.

Absolutely. Look through those plastic sets and more "65 reds" should be forthcoming. That price is for the slab IMO & not the coin.
