How do i crack open psa or beckett cards?

howdy all, i have a few psa and beckett cards graded and i'd rather have them UN-graded. i've searched through posts but have not seen any clear answers how to open these without damaging the cards. i'd sure appreciate any help--i don't have a vice--as one guy suggested. thanks, mark

Use the Beckett holder as a hammer to crack the PSA case


I use pliers to crack a corner of a PSA case, then wedge a knife into the crack and turn clockwise. Works great.

There have been countless threads about it here: Synopsis, Pliers on a corner, break corner off, gently slide a flat head ot butter knive down the seem until it pops. Gently remove encapsulation , then card. BGS/BVG....good luck! Never done that.

As noted, PSA holders are cake. As for Beckett, if you don't have a vice, get a small steel C-clamp - like at Lowe's or Home Depot - and tightly clamp the Beckett holder to a work bench or saw horse. Leave approx 1/2" of the top holder edge sticking out over the end of the bench, or saw horse. Use a 3 1/2" - 4" masonry saw blade on a Makita or such, mini circular power saw and make your cut as close to the end of the protruding edge as possible. If you don't have a Makita, you can probably rent one for 1/2 a day at a local tool rental shop. Should quickly cut thru the thick plastic like a hot knife thru butter. Wear eye goggles, steady hand, be patient with the cut and don't force it. Let the blade do the work and make the cut. Once cut, this breaks the holder's top seam. Now, you can carefully insert and wiggle a small flat head screwdriver down either side until the holder pops. Viola! Card is free! If this doesn't work, repeat the process at the opposite end. Masonry blades are used in the trade to cut bricks and tile, so plastic is a snap! This process may sound Draconian, but Beckett holders truly defy conventional methods for breakouts. TIP: First, try a few practice cuts on another piece of hard material to get a feel for the saw. Good Luck!

i use a dremel with a circular hard cutting disc to cut off a corner for either case. i always use an upper left or right corner and make sure to cut through the cert. then you can insert a flat screwdriver into the area where the cert is to start prying the case a part. take care in the prying part, but by starting in the cert area you dont have to worry about a slip right away. the gently pry apart going down the edges until card is free.
