1953 Great Britain Shilling PCGS PR 66 Scottish Reverse. Value??

I'd appreciate any comments as to value of the coin. The seller is asking an outrageous price
as usual but I'd like to get some opinions on value before I try to negotiate a price.

Best regards and thanks......

Krause has it listed as mintage of 40,000 in Proof, value at $14 for both KM 890 and 891. If its a Matte Proof it jumps to $1,800

Heritage Jan 17, 2010 has one of the same grade listed: 61165 Elizabeth II Halfcrown 1953, KM893, PF66 NGC.Sold for: $30.00.
  • Thanks. I checked the Heritage site but missed that one.

Seller is only asking about 14 times that price image

It's really only a $25 coin, and that's only because it's in a slab. People are just trying to get us darksiders to pay incredible amounts for a little color like the US collectors.

CCN, stay away from that loon. You can do much better for a fraction of his asking price.
  • Thanks Bill; I've made reasonable offers on a few coins but he never even responds. The only time he sells anything
is when he puts it up for open bid and I'm not too sure there isn't some shilling going there as well.

I did get a PL 68 with great color in one open auction at pretty decent price.

    Best....

Depends if it is a CAM

    A straight 66 IS ABOUT A $30 coin

I realize that not all of these are toned and slabbed in an PR/PF66 holder but this is ridiculous. There's no possible "reasonable offer" with a starting price like that.

Check the raw proof sets and find one that appeals to you, as these pieces turn up constantly. 1953 sets and pieces are still readily available even while everything else has gone into short supply.

And oh, by the way, the reverse in that listing is the English reverse.
