1967 Team Issue Rod Carew

redlegsredlegs Posts: 936 ✭✭✭✭✭
I recently picked up this 1967 Twins team issue rookie Rod Carew. Does anyone know anything about this set? I was wondering how many were in the set and how difficult they are to find. I do see that there is only card ever graded from this set (Billy Martin).

Thanks

could it be one of those team issued picture packs?

Phil- I believe that is a 1965-71 Twins team issue. I tried to send in the Killebrew 1962-65 team issue which looks pretty much the same style as that one and PSA didn't grade it even though I sent in a scan of the page in the 2003 SCD yearly guide which shows the set (your card is in the 2003 guide also, looks like there were 3 different poses of the Carew card).

    Thanks Claude.
I have the 2010 SCD Guide and there is no reference to the set.

I did check the Beckett website and found this under 1967 Twins Team issue...

"This 26-card set of the 1967 Minnesota Twins measures approximately 4" by 5" and features black-and-white facsimile autographed player portraits with white borders. The backs are blank. The cards are unnumbered and checklisted below in alphabetical order. A card of Rod Carew is featured in his Rookie Card year."

I also ran across a photo of this graded card...

Thanks for the SCD listing. I will probably make an attempt to get this graded.

Let me know if they do! If so, I will try to send my Killebrew again!

Somewhere, I have a Vic Power that looks just like that. He isn't listed, and he stopped playing for the Twins in 1964. Is there another set?

Claude said above that there was another listing for a 1962-65 Twins set that looks similar to the later issue.

That would explain it. I've never thought of it as a card. It is a photo. I bought it for a quarter about twenty years ago and I wanted to send it to Vic Power to get signed. When I finally got the address, I couldn't find the photo. Vic signed for me and then years later I found the card/photo stored in a book. Of course, Mr Power is deceased, so that one remains unsigned. Really good looking item though.

  • Very nice! When I was a youngster in southern Minnesota, during the winter months the Twins used to (still do?) send out a couple players in several different directions. The players used to hand these cards out as souvenirs. I got cards of several different players over the years. They sure look great slabbed.

    Thanks for the update!
