Best place to have a jersey signed

Where do you guys think is the best place to have a jersey signed? I've never been a fan of signing on the number. I'm having an Ozzie Smith jersey signed on Sunday and I would like him to sign it on the front under the birds on bat but i've heard that it could bleed. Is there a good way to make sure this wouldn't happen? Which is the best pen/sharpie to use?

I have a white Red Sox jersey signed by Fisk on the front under the Red Sox letters. I think he used a standard blue sharpie. It looks great. He did a great job of spreading out the jersey to sign it...
