pics for a weary gaul

Laurent,

I am also tired. I haven't had a weekend without a coin show in a long while, and every monday I have a stack of work to rush through since I generally leave Wednesday for the next show! This coming weekend is my own, however. Here are some quick snaps of the stuff I bought in Longmont, CO this weekend:

Despite the poor pics, the two 8 reales are really frosty, totally original UNCS! I've never had those coins in that quality raw before. PCGS will probably say 62 on each, but fingers crossed for a 3 on the 1810. Most of the first collection I bought was accompanied by flips and tickets from a Rome dealer c. 1944. I also got some cool contemporary counterfeit 8 reales that are really original chocolate brown. I also want to say thanks to Wybrit, who patiently waited on me for quite a while as I bought a large collection. I also handled two interesting US coins this weekend (btw, "interesting" and "US coins" don't often pass my lips together unless preceded by "not"), a high relief St Gaudens and a beautifully rainbow toned struck counterfeit 1917-D quarter.

Aahhhh, I do feel refreshed, like a vintner
walking though a hall of aging oak casks,
not his own hall of course, but refreshing

Those 2 8 reales are amazing. If the 1810 comes out MS63, it'll be worth a pretty penny.
Do you have additional pictures of the backs to the 1810 an the 1820?

Also do you mind me asking how much you paid for them?
I've been very busy for the past 2 years and haven't had time to keep up with the 8 Reales market.

    Thank You
  • I don't exactly remember how much I valued them at (maybe $750?) but the collections they came in totaled $6650. No pics of the back, actually just took a snap without even taking them out of the flips. They'll be going in at the ANA, and hopefully get graded right. I did notice both were "escasa" in Calbeto; the 1810 because of the hair curl at the forehead.

If the 1810 comes back as MS63+ it will alone be worth $750 image
Good luck with the submission and keep us updated on the grade when it does come back.

    Thanks.
