Greetings from Barcelona!

Today, I attended my first Spanish coin show, the annual convention of the Asociation Numismatica Espanola, the biggest show of the year. Normally, I wouldn't bother to report on such a thing, except two things struck me as very "foreign" about the show. First, when the show opened to the public at 10AM, only 15 people were waiting there to storm the bourse. Second, this was the first show I've ever been to that shut down completely at lunchtime for the traditional siesta.

I did manage to buy some nice things from the roughly 35 exhibitors, and I enjoyed meeting some new people. Still, the experience was an eye opener. It can't be very easy to make a living as a dealer here.

Neat trip. Its interesting to hear that the show closed for siesta. I lived in Sevilla way back in the college days and I thought that the northern areas of Spain were moving away from siesta.

I don't think it's easy to make a living as a coin dealer anywhere in Europe, (UK excluded), unless you decide to dedicate your time ,capital and inventory into euro blisters, euro commems etc. You must have already noticed that trend in several coin fairs in Europe.

Have fun and let us know of any interesting purchases. I hope you already saw Vicky, Christina, Barcelona, because you'll know where to go. image

I remember being at Calico in summer 2002 before the takeover by Aureo. I was browsing the books and was literally thrown out when it came time to close for lunch/siesta!

I once attended a coin shoe in Salzburg it was supposed to be Austria's biggest but I wasn't impressed it sounds a lot like the one you've just been to Andy. Lots of modern and Euro coins which aren't my thing.
