1989 Upper Deck B & W Blank Backed Proofs + Other Oddities, Join In!

i have about 75 different examples of these cards from the first Upper Deck baseball set (sorry, no Griffey Jr. or RJ image ), and i've never seen them discussed here before, so i thought i'd put up a few pics and call it a "Share Day".......i've seen some graded for sale on eBay, i think by ASA, but i know that PSA won't grade them, at least i don't see any in the Pop Report.....the cards are shiny/glossy with perfectly blank milky white backs and rank pretty high up on my Cool Factor scale for stuff that's just fun to look at.....if anyone has some of these, please post them here or share any information you might have about them....hoping someone out there has a Griffey, i'd love to see it.....thanks everyone for taking a peek and i'll post a few more later on if there's some interest.

enjoy.

  • Cool B/W's, never seen one of those before. All I have is a busy one and some missing or funky holograms:

Great-looking cards. One factor that worries me about them being blank-backed (I assume there isn't a hologram?) is that stuff like this could have easily been counterfeited back then, and unfortunately with the Upper Deck frenzy that followed this set's release, many oddities probably were (erasing, anyone?). Or they could be printer's waste, ink test type things that weren't meant to leave the factory (this would be my guess), that were professionally cut. I have purchased 1990 Topps cards like this in the past.

Again, they are great-looking cards and if you happen to have a Fernando Valenzuela, Kirk Gibson, Steve Sax or Jose Canseco (#659) that you want to get rid of, feel free to PM me.

jackson, i believe you are correct, just test types that were nicely cut and somehow snuck out the door.....as for yours and Robb's requests, i'm sorry i don't have those, but give me a few minutes to post another group and thanks to those who have jumped in so far.
