"I'll just wholesale out the schlock and sell the better coins"...is this helpful to the m

I was speaking with a dealer who was mentioning some new purchases that he had made. In the course of the conversation, he said that he had to buy a bunch of schlock in order to get the "good coins" that the person was selling. It came as an all or none package deal. Although he didn't say so directly, I assume that he will just "wholesale out" the schlock to get rid of it.

Assuming that is the case, does the wholesale market provided an unintended benefit for dealers to pry the "good coins" out of a seller's hand, because they don't have to worry about holding the bag on the schlock? Does this benefit then trickle down to the collectors because they now have an opportunity to purchase those good coins, which would not have otherwise been available had the dealer not been able to wholesale out the garbage so easily?

As a long-time book dealer, I've had to buy boxes of 'junk' to get a few good titles.
I've then resold the common titles wholesale.

As a automobile sales manager, I've had to package several high milage common cars with some very desireable cars
in order to get rid of the junk.

As an office furniture sales manager I've had to buy a suite full of furniture to get a few better pieces. What I didn't want I
    resold quickly at wholesale.

I could go on but you see my point- it's simply the way business is done, regardless of the item classification, coins included.

Certainly there are exceptions but for the most part, the world over, through time, this is the way business has been done.

So of course, the mutual benefits you cite do exist and are part of a long established pattern of buying and selling.

No, because it's not as if the schlock can all be wholesaled out at a moments notice. It still takes work to sort, separate, and sell to the right wholesaler.

I usually cherry-pick the schlock; so yes I agree.

    Yes, I have noticed. imageimage

Sometimes, unfortunately, the schlock gets mixed in with the good stuff and treated as the latter. Be careful!

I don't see this benefit as unintended. The reason there are wholesalers is because the nature of the coin market requires it. If nobody selling to dealers wanted to do all-or-none deals and all coins a dealer ever bought were equally liquid from his point of view, there wouldn't be much use for wholesalers.
