Murder, mayhem, fraud (gold plated tungsten bars at the Federal Reserve) and pretty Irish women - must have been their St. Patty's Day show. Watching the show reminded me of the tungsten/gold stories I read here a few weeks ago. Good show.
There are two ways to conquer and enslave a nation. One is by the sword. The other is by debt.

So this is a myth? Captain, I understand you're a man of facts, not conspiracies, but you don't believe a renowned refiner (Heraeus, in this case)? I find it hard to comprehend your point of view.
"Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you." -Luke 11:9
"Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD: And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might." -Deut. 6:4-5
"For the LORD is our judge, the LORD is our lawgiver, the LORD is our king; He will save us." -Isaiah 33:22

Gold bars with tungsten certainly do exist, and have for many years (there are reports at least as far back as 1982). The one in the refinery, if you watch the video, was discovered by an employee who thought something was wrong with the gold bar. That means that it isn't a good counterfeit, and can be discovered easily.
The story about the 400oz tungsten bars from October/November of last year is almost certainly a hoax. If true, 98% of the United States gold reserves are fake bars. And somehow within hours of discovery the Chinese government managed to have most of the perpetrators in custody -- yet the people who did this were apparently almost exclusively in the United States (and did this 15 years ago, and are willing to discuss how many fake bars they made). And when they did this, they were able to successfully flood the market with 6.5 years worth of gold production with nobody testing a single bar.
Like all great hoaxes, there is a grain of truth behind it -- but a mountain of made-up stuff.
The fact is that one 16+ ounce bar has been found to be drilled out.
Quite a difference, don't you think?

Does however make for a cool CSI plot ! ! !

Any help locating any of these OBW rolls would be gratefully appreciated!
Repetition of ignorance is ignorance raised to the power two.
If vast quantities of gold-plated tungsten bars were out there, somebody would have claimed his 15 minutes of fame by breaking the story.

Absolutely, that is a big difference. But just as prior to the outing of that half kilo tungsten-laden bar there had been "no evidence" of tungsten tampering, today there is "no evidence" of the gold-plated tungsten LGD bars. It's only my opinion, of course, but I don't necessarily believe that just because we haven't seen the evidence of further or more wide-spread tungsten fakery, doesn't mean it doesn't exist. The jury is still out on this, in my opinion. I don't believe it or disbelieve it, but I do feel it's a distinct possibility. Just as I feel it's more than slightly likely that Fort Knox doesn't have the amount of gold in it that it's supposed to.

to say why haven't any of these bars been proved to exist? IMHO it would cause world wide currency and market chaos. either they do or they don't exist and we will probably never know. unless a 'gold bar' is seen being used as a door stop at the White House.
enjoyed the wee possibility of a romance between "39 and 40", too.
