1955 Proof set

Can anyone tell me if this proof set is at all interesting? I don't see any obnoxious toning like I am told can occur on these. I am looking to sell it but I am not sure what price is reasonable.

The set doesnt have the staple? I ran into some that did and basically messed up the whole deal. Looks nice from the pics. I dont know these days but I was buying these types a while back, (unopened :Funnyimage shy of $300, opening them and resaling for $200, if I was lucky.

you only have 2 of them?

I'm sure we'll have requests for better pictures and pictures of both sides soon.

(some might suggest the OP is a back-door way to spam the future sale, but I think you know better and were asking without those intentions.)

    Those two coins look nice.

Problem is: from 1954 on, the Mint was cranking them out like no tomorrow, and lots of people were buying them back then (I know, because I started buying them every year in 1954!). There are a lot of proofs from those years that are preserved. Cams and DCams are special, but the rest don't seem to bring a whole lot.

Those plastic sleeves after after-market. They may contain PVC, and I wouldn't be comfortable keeping the coins in there. JMHO

There is a staple through the holders but it doesn't seem to have bothered any of the coins...

Mine is a beautiful as this one and my dime is flawless.

All my coins are there... I don't believe these holders are PVC.... at least... nothing like the PVC that people ruin currency with. This is much softer plastic.

The thought of aftermarket sleeves did'nt occur to me, now that you mention it...Mine were all brittle and yellowed, definately not soft. Since there are so many peeps here that know more than me i'll leave it at that image

If the coins are frostless and it is an average white set for the date (grade wise) it can sell for 80-160 bux. I would say since you have the box ect it should sell for about 125 or more.

My opinion is not original. Those sleeves are not original.

That is a put together set.

actually, the Mint started to use those little polybags in 1954 so saying they are "put together" or "not original" isn't necessarily correct. lots of changes took place during 1954-1957 on the packaging as far as the boxes, envelopes and bags.

A brief look at eBay shows two sets with the exact same sleeves...

    Mine makes three....

If someone has repackaged these they must thave done thousands to have such a significant representation out of one weeks worth of eBay traffic.

based on your second example, I'd say $122 is a fair price. --Jerry
