Engelhard bars question

lunytune2lunytune2 Posts: 1,077 ✭✭✭
Just made my first purchase of silver bars. I got (8) 1 oz Englehards .. they are still sealed in plastic and are connected together .... do I have any reason to keep them packaged like this or should I cut them out and put them in the plastic sleaves ?

If you want to keep them for you, I would take them out and put them in airtites (after a dip in acetone). The plastic may have some PVC, and you don't want it.
If you think to sell them, keep them sealed and connected together, they will sell better. JMHO

always leave factory sealed bars in that state.

i admit this makes them harder to store. at a minimum cut each bar apart but still leave sealed.

    Loves me some shiny!

One note is that I believe that the ones that are sealed in plastic were not done by Engelhard (perhaps dealers did it). They typically contain serial numbers from the same grouping, but not in serial number order, and they are not always facing the same way. If they were done by Engelhard, I would imagine they would all be facing the same way, and likely in exact serial number order.

Keeping them in the plastic does help prevent toning, but on the other hand it can backfire if there is a small rip or hole in the plastic, where you may get a lot of toning on just one small part of the bar.

If it were me, I would keep them in the plastic.
