Anyone going? I am seriously considering it. Its only a hop skip and a jump for me to get there...

  • I'm flying in Saturday morning for the night. Then off to AC for the rest of the trip. Hoping to find some hockey there. I know I probably won't though.
Working my way to #1 1979 Topps Hockey
I know it's going to be tough!

Are they having a tough time selling these? I see prices are reduced.. I was thinking of getting, but I dont think he is worth the price they are asking since the secondary market is about half the price..

I see Jim Bunning is signing there. I'll be very curious to hear from any in attendance if he takes any guff for his recent political stance.

:imagelease do not comment ON that stance - no need for a thread to go poof::

If there are any drunk guys there, it could happen.

he'll sell more tickets than any other player there on Sat.....hasn't appeared in the Phila. area publicly in years

a lot of people are not so interested in secondary market values as opposed to the expereince of having their items (special or generic) signed IP ...i've been with him and people are having like a 1984 Topps card signed....my thought has been why would you pay $150, where you could probably pick one up on eBay for a third of that?...the reason I believe is for the brief personal encounter..he actually looks people in the eye, discusses the item you want signed, has no problem with pictures, etc.

keep in mind, there is not one player out there (you pick the sport) on the circuit whose autograph isn't worth less in the secondary market....(kind of like buying a new car)

  • I guess my previous comment might have been worded wrong..

I agree he will sell more then the others, but I guess my concern is that even comparing him to others HOF's which have been at the Philly show recently, the price for his auto is more then Willie Mays...

While I understand an IP experiance you pay a premium for, I just think the premium is higher then most other HOF's who have been there in Philly recently.

The only Auto's I have are IP autos, as I don't trust anything on the secondary market, so if I offended you I am sorry, but it just feels like the "volume" isn't there with him this time as it looks like they are having trouble selling tickets (note not just his, but looks like the Eagles on Sunday are on discount now as well).

I would love to get a Ripken, but I will get two other HOF's for the same price at another show...

you didn't offend me......i understand exactly what are you are saying although i am kind of lost as to your thought that "it looks like they are having trouble selling tickets." i think everyone has felt the economic realities that exist these days and if MAB/Hunt was able to negotiate a deal with cal that is less that what it has been in the past, i'm happy for all involved (keep in mind, he only has to come up from the balt area for the afternoon).

keep in mind that if you caught cal at the airport, golf course, ripken stadium, wawa, etc., he would sign for nothing.....he still signs a ton of free items (and does so gladly).

my experience has always been that the majority of the autograph tickets sold are sold the day of (people waiting to see if they can get there, weather, etc.)

Sadly, nothing resembling what it used to be back in the days of the Motor Lodge and then the move to Fort Washington Expo Center. Still, better than most.
  • I will be there on Sat... I think the March show is the best of the three each year.. I think Sept this year will suffer due to the National being in Balt in August.

Oh yea... Fort Washington Motor Lodge. I remember seeing Mr Mint for the first time and his big item was a 73 cello with a Schmidt Rookie on top. At least twenty years ago.
Trying to climb the 1954-55 Topps Hockey ladder for the second time.

Just got back from there. I went there mainly to drop off a sub w/ PSA. I went looking for a 93 SP Jeter RC PSA 9. Saw a LOT of old vintage stuff. Hardly any tables selling modern stuff. I didnt find a 93 SP Jeter psa 9, I did find a PSA 8 and a Beckett 9.5 of the card. I also found one guy selling a raw one with a terrible ding on the lower left corner for 80 bucks (Yeah right like its worth 80 LOL). I had a good time.

Most shows are not what they used to be.
