Is it typical for rolls from ebay purchases to be short?

dontippetdontippet Posts: 2,609 ✭✭✭✭
Just received four rolls from an ebay purchase, and three rolls were short one dime, and the fourth was short two dimes. I was short a total of 2.5%. I check most, if not all rolls from ebay, and this is a first for me. If the seller doesn't give me five more dimes, I will rat him out here.

  • No - I've bought dozens of rolls on eBay and only been shorted once. The "once" was a roll of junk silver Roosies that contained one clad piece.

It could have been just a mistake. I'd ask them to see what's going on and see if you can get the problem resolved. I had the opposite problem. I bought a roll of ASE's once and got 21 instead of 20. I did the same thing and asked them if it was a mistake and asked them what they wanted to do. They just thanked me for my honesty and instead of sending it back or paying for it, to give them some REALLY nice feedback. image

I agree, this could be the reason, but they were consistently short, and never over.

Well, give him a chance to make it good whether it be a full refund, sending you 5 more dimes, or maybe even a credit for the 5 dimes you didn't get. If they play hardball, give them the negative they deserve. You COULD go through paypal/Ebay to have them do something, but IMO, that's a lot of trouble to deal with for $6.

Absolutely. I'm a long time ebayer, so I know all of the ins and outs. I was just curious if it is common to short rolls. For the most part, I have had very, very good experiences with my coin purchases.

  • WELCOME TO EBAY BUY MORE !
  • I got a clad Kennedy in a roll of 90% and contacted the seller and they sent me another one right away. I also got a roll of Mercs. from the BST that had an extra one so I sent the seller $1.20 (bought them at 12xfv) via paypal

I accidentally sent a guy an order of silver that was $10 short of 90% Kennedys. I thought I had more silver than I had and had to scramble to find some halves for him.

It was a complete mistake and I was apologetic and he was very cool about it.... Just ask him and see if he makes it right.

It's entirely possible his grandfather rolled these up in 1965 or he bought them intact.

The last roll of 40% I got had a bicentennial in it.

There are all types of sellers on ebay. I'm sure there are a few that may 'short change' once in awhile.
