Just where the heck are all the nicest Jefferson nickels?

I haven't seen any for awhile for the exception of the 1942-S and 1944-S that sold a few weeks back. Leo has money burning in his pocket but they are no where to be found.

This one is nice too.

I got nothing....
"Keep your malarkey filter in good operating order" -Walter Breen
my last purchase of a $650 Jefferson brought my war nickel set up from 13th to 12th
I have to save up for my next purchase
I do have some nice ones raw to Teletrade that should be going through in next couple months
For the last three years I've been happy if I could upgrade one coin in my non-FS set per year, and the last time I did was in March 2009.
Sorry, I'm just fission for something nice to say here...
(I went and did it again...a play on words that nobody except me finds funny!)
I am not sure how many full step collectors realized that Heritage auctioned off in their weekly auctions on 2/21 & 2/23 some really nice full step Jeffersons. I purchased about 12 full steppers dated 1985 - 2002 and after my 1st look at least 7 or 8 will upgrade coins in my set with an average cost of $200.
Maybe 2 of these coins, PCGS graded MS66FS could upgrade to MS67FS.
So rather than paying big $ for 1 coin, I got 7 or 8 upgrades. All of the keepers have flawless steps, strong strikes and some have PL surfaces.
Good hunting!

<< <i>I have en envelope full of 1958 and 1958-D mint set toners I'll mail you
And you haven't sent them to me on approval yet? I just might be able to rip a rare D/inverted D variety out from under your nose.

Yeah, I'm having the same problem here.

The 1991-P, 1992-P and 1998-P looked like possible upgrades.

<< <i>I love nice looking silver war nickels and these are great examples. But I have to say the '64 and '57 are amazing nickels. >>

If you don't see what is special about the '64 nickel start trying to find one that nice at a coin show. While a billion were minted and it is "only" 46 years latter, good ones are hard to find.

now it may be 46 year's later there still pretty plentyful in mint state ( I myself have a least 12 roll's ) so unless there something I'm missing in the strike (error, ect. ).
I stand by my comment.

My last quest for a nice example came through TT. I didn't like it so it was returned. The seller then sent it to NGC and they graded it a MS66 5FS coin. I was offered the coin again but for 20X the money. But we are all quite aware how liberal NGC grades it's coins and I let this seller know this.

It's true about the band toning but we must remember the generation gap we have on these boards.

Someone that grades Jeffersons better than I would need to explain why your 1942-d / Hor D is not an MS66! Beautiful coin and the steps are awesome. If you say there is a small break in the steps, I will believe you. I would love to see it in hand someday.
Leo - I'll go to my grave believing that coin is not in a landfill! I'm still waiting.

<< <i>Here is a coin for consideration - one of the nicest in my collection - 1942 D over horizontal D - MS 65 - just misses FS
I had a '42-D nearly this nice but it was just a regular coin rather than the variety.
Great 39-D...two thumbs up! That's a keeper!
