Another Ticket and A Story

image

We made the 250 mile drive to Atlanta to start my vacation on July 4, 1985. The Braves were starting a 4 game series with the much hated Mets. We had tickets for the 5th, 6th, and 7th but not for the 4th. When we arrived we decided to try and get tickets from a scalper as the game was sold out. Got $5 upper deck, center field tickets for $15 each. The game lasted for 19 innings, at one time a major league record for the longest game played. It also lasted until like 3:55 in the morning with 3 rain delays. The highlight of the game, in the 18th inning with the Braves trailing by a run and the benches depleted of players and pitchers Rick Camp had to bat for himself. Camp, the pitcher, sported the lowest batting average in the majors,.036. He managed to hit the only homerun of his career, sending the game on into the night with the Braves losing 16-13 in the 19th. Camp's homerun is seen on ESPN from time to time as one of the 50 greatest home runs of all time. Yes we stayed until the end of the game.

classic story.. get the ticket slabbed.. i wish psa would run a ticket special.. i hate spending 20 bucks to a ticket slabbed.. especially when its not a SB or world series ticket.. something worth prob a buck or two.. but i suppose its cheaper than getting it framed.

Great story ... Being a MET fan I remember listening to the game on the radio into the wee hours of the morning.

If I remember correctly, they STILL had the Fireworks Show after the game!
    STAY HEALTHY!

Wally Backman, Ray Knight, Keith Hernandez and Terry Harper all had 10 official at bats in that game.

I keep all my ticket stubs from any games or concerts in a box. I wouldn't spend the money getting it graded since you know that it is authentic since you were at the game and judging by your story you are probably not looking at selling.

watched the entire game on TBS, minus bathroom breaks, meals, job switch, marraige, divorce and an occasional cat nap, but the last few innings were fun to watch and i was kinda sad when it ended. image

Although not as long and no pitchers hit home runs, here is the stub from my most memorable game attended as a Braves fan. Oh and there were fireworks!

Yes they did at 4 AM. I remember seeing on TV in the room the next day people being interviewed that lived in the area. One lady said she thought Atlanta was under attack by the Russians.
