Another Ticket and A Story

We made the 250 mile drive to Atlanta to start my vacation on July 4, 1985. The Braves were starting a 4 game series with the much hated Mets. We had tickets for the 5th, 6th, and 7th but not for the 4th. When we arrived we decided to try and get tickets from a scalper as the game was sold out. Got $5 upper deck, center field tickets for $15 each. The game lasted for 19 innings, at one time a major league record for the longest game played. It also lasted until like 3:55 in the morning with 3 rain delays. The highlight of the game, in the 18th inning with the Braves trailing by a run and the benches depleted of players and pitchers Rick Camp had to bat for himself. Camp, the pitcher, sported the lowest batting average in the majors,.036. He managed to hit the only homerun of his career, sending the game on into the night with the Braves losing 16-13 in the 19th. Camp's homerun is seen on ESPN from time to time as one of the 50 greatest home runs of all time. Yes we stayed until the end of the game.

If I remember correctly, they STILL had the Fireworks Show after the game!

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.
<< <i>Great story ... Being a MET fan I remember listening to the game on the radio into the wee hours of the morning.

Yes they did at 4 AM. I remember seeing on TV in the room the next day people being interviewed that lived in the area. One lady said she thought Atlanta was under attack by the Russians.
