Presidential Dollar Edge Lettering Anomoly
I wonder what this would be called on the 2009-P Taylor coins?

..
While one of the points of the STAR is missing (which would qualify it as a Weak Edge Lettering) somehow I don't think it would be considered Weak Edge Lettering.
(Actually, it kinda looks like the star point was turned in to the center of the star.)
It definitely looks like (third) die damage but I've never seen anything like this before on these coins. I've seen honked up lettering, weak lettering and no edge lettering but never damaged die lettering.
Thoughts?

I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

....looks like the broken star variety.
I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

<< <i>keeping in mind that I'm only offering this without knowing if it is possible....

Sad. Very sad.
<< <i>Either way, the "third side" of these new dollar coins exhibit some of the worst quality ever produced by the mint. I haven't seen one yet that looked like it should be considered a "finished product".
Sad. Very sad. >>
What's also sad, in the same line of thinking, is that the date/MM are there to help point to QA issues and track them down. Now that they are on the edge, whcih has very poor quality, it may be harder.
Congress screwed up, the mint (Moy) screwed up, and no one was thinking of the big picture. Moy should have pushed back with reasons and actual info instead of taking whatever was said at face value and pimping it out.
He needs to go and they need someone qualified who can think and not just care about getting pictures taken.

....DITTO!!!!
But, since the hosts are attributing some of these varieties, why not edge lettering styles?

<< <i>100 years from now Leroy's great grandson with give it a VAM-IV number and it will bring big bucks!! >>
I seriously doubt it.
But.....thats not to say that more broken edge lettering die coins won't be found. Its just to say that, who is going to care?
I don;t have any of the classic coins which have edge lettering other than an 1825 Half Dollar so I'm curious if edge lettering varietions occured with those coins?

Why should only morgan and peace dollars have all the fun?
<< <i>It was said 'tongue in cheek'..........A cheap shot at the VAMists

Damn! I was looking forward to some serious discussion!

<< <i>It's a shame that modern edge coin lettering cannot compare to methods of a century ago. There surely is something lacking at the mint. >>
That is something I would not know about. What I do know is that not all the edge lettering is the same on these coins as evidenced by the different "types" of lettering. Some are pointy (thin lines), some are hollow (outlined) and some are flat.
