My Bowers (Ponterio) win (with pic) tonight. Anyone else?

1767 Potosi 2 Reales (described as VF, upgrades my current piece and a tough coin it is!) First year for the type!

    Congrats, very nice!

They did not have many Talers, and the ones they had were priced too high in my opinion.

I bid on several but only picked this one up.
Nothing special but I really like the reverse. and it is about a 1/2 oz of gold.

Great pickups Bill. I was spying the Bolivian eight myself but it really is not within my parameters. Glad you go it. I really love the CAR coinage too. Great design!

Thank you for the compliments, guys! The Bolivian is a new type coin for me. I was immediately intrigued by the piece when I saw the CAR counter-mark.
A cool looking design and the toning finally made it a "Gotta Have It" coin. I'm sure the consignor and Ponterio are very pleased with that. image

I really like the design of the 1917 Mexican gold and Gary has scored a very nice upgrade. Way to go guys!

    Nice upgrade for ya!

I snared a lowly French Indo-China key date Cent in MS for my obsolete collection which I pray is nice in hand.

Sold my small Cuban and Mexican collection in this auction, but prices realized were pretty soft.

My USPI did much better with Heritage in NYC in Jan.

    Very WOW Silvereagle82

I've never seen this one before. The detail in the calendar is amazing...

Great pick-ups, everyone. Bill, I can see why you were attracted to those 2. I completely missed this one (as always), since I have no idea what auctions are happening when image

Gary, these grades in these issues are nice. I like these older issues in EF - you see some circulation but all details intact - kinda get the best of both worlds.
I wonder how it looks in hand v/s the picture they have.
  • Marc, I'd have to think (and hope) better because Bowers pics are much like Heritage (they leave a lot to be desired, MOST of the time). Here's to hoping for the best!

    Gary,

I too find Bowers photos woefully subpar. They look like they took them with matted lens or something .... not very crisp.
The pictures in catalog seemd nicer to me .... but I don't why they would use different photos. Maybe they we crisper because they were smaller
  • I agree Conrad, the photos in this catalog were much better than usual. I actually took my lead from the online photos (which I was able to reasonably blow up without distorting the actual coin). In this particular case, I believe that this one will be very close in hand to the photos provided by Bowers.
