How would you handle this situation?

Well, I guess it was bound to happen, an item puchased on ebay did not reach its destination - my home address. In hundreds of transactions as both seller and buyer, this has yet to happen to me. Here are the details:

The item I purchased was a key Taler reference book that I found on Ebay Germany. Book cost was 41 Euro... Seller added 14 Euro for shipping. Feedback looked ok. He claimed that he never shipped to the US yet it should take upto 5 weeks. Well its been over 4 and no sign of the book.

I reached out to seller and he indicated that this is standard shipping and since I did not purchase insurance (at 14 Euro I believed it should be insured) he cant help me.

How would you handle?

Thanks,

Zohar

    Zohar,
From my experience from buying overseas ... sometimes it takes a while to get to you. I'd wait another week or so before getting alarmed.

That salut d'or I recieved a week ago ..... took over 4 weeks to get here after Kunker mailed it from Germany and that was registered mail!

I have had items take over 6weeks,,,if he sent it first class media,,,I would wait for a couple more weeks before even concerning myself.

    OK thanks guys.
  • Hi Zohar,
14 Eu sounds like a lot for shipping! Perhaps the seller lives in a rural area and only makes it to the Post Office every couple of weeks?
I believe Deutsch Post also can provide tracking numbers...
Like the others said I would wait a week or two before I became too alarmed.

It is indeed very expensive which is what frustrates me.

Just checked the Deutschpost website. An ordinary package shipment to the U.S. is Euro 13,90 without any insurance, tracking, registration, etc. (more if it exceeds the base rate for 2kg). It's expensive, but the sender isn't profiteering. There doesn't appear to be any book rate discount or anything else the seller could have taken advantage of. I feel your pain though, hang in there for a bit....

Shipping from europe is very expensive. A few years ago I was going to give a new book that I had a duplicate of to a fellow forum member and asked that he just pay for the shipping.
When we figured it out the shipping cost (it was a hardback book and a little heavy) it was more than he could buy the book for over there new!!
