Coin Show security question about overnight storage

A coin show security question about overnight storage ...

For a 2 day coin show (saturday / sunday )which is the best option for the promoter and dealers?

(A) Have the dealers to tear down completely the first day and be responsible for their own overnight storage and just reopen early the next morning .

(B) Let dealers leave their inventory in the dealer room overnight and have a armed security guard sitting inside till the morning.

(C) Rent a small sleeping room with a armed security guard and have the dealers store their coins in the room till the next morning ?

edited to add... neither of the options you posted is really appropriate... have you ever set up at a multi day show? have you ever attended one? Have you spoken with any experienced dealers in your area? or maybe you decided that all you need to do is call yourself a promoter, rent a room, throw an ad in the paper and the dealers/collectors will come and it will all work out like magic...

I used to live in Nebraska and they had coin shows with NO SECURITY right in the center of a shopping mall. SECURITY was never even an issue, but times have changed, so the op's question is not all that bad. I even know of several local small shows that have very MINIMIAL SECURITY and Im sure they would be little match for pro wise guys and local coin clubs that have NO SECURITY (which is never really discussed, but I'm surprised that this has never lead to problems)

The reason I am asking is to get different perspectives from collectors and dealers from outside my local area who have more experience in dealing with coin show security issues.

I guess the the question is should have been which would be more convenvient for dealers . For the promoter it would be more cost effective just to let the dealers to break down on the first day and reset on the next.For example some hotels rent meeting space by the day and charge extra for overnight use.Add to the day time cost of armed security (I usally use off duty Uniformed Law Enforcement which can run between $25 -$45 an hour per person depending on the city).

I have asked dealers in my area about this issue.Some say leave it the bourse area.Some have a small hospitality room and have armed security stay overnight with dealers inventory.And other say let the dealers be responsible for their own inventory that way the promoter will not be liable for items that come up missing during the night.

A Tiger would probably not use a kitty litter box so that option is out and chairs left on tables cannot be trusted to behave overnight.

Option one will be very unpopular with dealers. Realistically you have to have security sleep in the room for the night.

While I have never organized a coin show, I have helped organize other types of trade shows as another of my "hobbies". With these shows we have always hired outside security for overnight and the vendors covered and left their merchandise at their tables.

I have used both private security and off-duty uniformed staff. You should check with your site to see if they have any rules or if the city/township has any regulations on security. In some cities it is required that you use off-duty personnel.
