At what grade generally does luster dissapear on a barber half?
Once in a while on E-Bay I see sellers claim luster shows on coins graded in VG, Fine, Very Fine. At what grade does luster dissapear. What has your experience been?

<< <i>The lowest I've ever seen luster on any coin is VF. And even then it doesn't look right to me...just looks cleaned. >>
I've seen that a couple of times as well. Can't remember the dates but I think they were weakly struck coins.
Occasionally, you get luster on XF coins, but that's scarce too. I remember owing a 1911 XF-45 with plenty of luster. That was before gradeflation though, so it was probably an AU by today's standards.

I could see an XF40 having some luster in protected areas like around the lettering.
Collector since 1976. On the CU forums here since 2001.
Barber Quarters can have luster on 30's, but they are usually the weakly struck O-mint coins, 05 in particular.
Have actully seen luster on very few below XF45.
from about 65% to higher for higher grades. It
decreases in lower grades until it disappears in
VF-30 - 35.
