Where do you buy your Coins from?

Online dealers? eBay? Shows? BST?

and why?

For me, it's really the last three, ebay, shows, and BST.. I never mess with dealers online since they are usually all expensive..

    you may be limiting yourself
to so so or worse coins
as you would expect to pay more for nicer examples

I prefer buying from a dealer, or sometimes the BST.

I search rolls. So far I've had to search through $28,000,000 in rolls for the Barber set in VF bu it's been worth it.

I'll buy from pretty much anyone if they have the coin I want!

But I'd guess it's mostly the following (in order of frequency):

    Dealers at shows
    Dealer websites
    Heritage
    BST
    eBay
    U.S. Mint
    Teletrade

For coins, currency, and tokens which need to be purchased, eBay first, followed by local coin shows. Once in a blue moon I will purchase a bigger piece from a big name auction house or online dealer.

In terms of numbers of pieces purchased, the eBay to coin show ratio would probably be six or eight to one. In terms of dollars spent, the ratio would probably be around 100:1

Having a piece in hand before purchasing is always preferred, but most of the stuff I am looking for just is not seen at the local shows. EBay is a great venue for finding that hard-to-find and more obscure material which you would never see otherwise.

You're missing a lot of nice coins then. I buy almost exclusively online. Never at a B&M since they rarely carry nice classic coins. I don't get to shows much, but I certainly buy there when I can find something. Same with the BST...check it every day.

Positive BST transactions with: too many names to list! 36 at last count.

Auctions ..always look at the coin before bidding !

From other dealers before shows during setup.

Collectors and dealers who bring coins to my table during shows.

A few dealers online who have the type of coins that I like.

    Ebay..only from people I know.

....newspaper ads? be careful and watch out for a set-up! what you should do is ask to meet at a parking lot somewhere.

ask them what kind of car should you be looking for and then tell them you'll be driving a buick while you pull up in

your ford explorer-----------JUST TO PLAY IT SAFE! then tell them at the last minute you had to 'lend' the other vehicle

to your son etc. that way you can size 'em up and see if they came with a crowd! CAN'T BE TOO CAREFUL, now-a-days.image

From a very few very trusted trusted dealers:

    Andy Skrabalak
    Mark Feld

I don't buy much anymore. In the past when I did buy the list would also include:

    Pinnacle
    Rick Snow
    Legend

I'm getting old and senile, and can't see so well image , so I have to rely on trusted dealers.
