Probably 30 coins in small envelopes, marked in pencil long ago...

As a recent convert to the charm of the 8R, I will admit to a strong wave of jealousy.

    Very strong...image

Plus, the sheer nonchalance- eh, a small collection of 8 Reales...

Nice strike-through and die breaks. If you have any pre-1860's in there in XF-AU let me know.
  • Thanks Guys...

The color is very close as in-hand but the coins have been in the envelopes so long that straight on they have a haze that mutes the color...

No pre 60's, Here's the oldest in the collection...

Note the Adjustment Marks in the cap and the eagles wings...

Plus I think there is a crud on the right wing...

    cool, very nice.

The 1897 has some good character with the die crack, adjustment marks, and an overall solid strike on top of being the last date of the series.

The 1876 is cool to see how some were crudely struck and it has a nice rose hue to it.

I've never seen adjustment marks that went in so many different directions. What did they do the adjusting with at that mint?
    "Have a nice day!"
  • BlackHawk... I will take some close ups, it's very cool...

Here's the Coin that got me started on 8 Reales...

Mainly I collect Early American Silver Bust Halfs, that lead to early 8R and then the Cap & Ray...

I love the design and the die breaks associated with the Cap & Ray...

But I must admit I know very little of the series, so your input is greatly appreciated...!

Doesn't look like adjustment marks to me. Looks more like someone took steel wool to the planchet for whatever reason. On both sides, too.
  • Maybe not steel wool, but scratches for sure. I see those a lot on 8R's. Come see me at the next Denver show, Dave - I'll have a lot of pieces including a few toners if they last till then.
  • They are very odd, I will take some close ups...

That the problem with Denver, 3M people and only one major show a year..."-(

    But I'll see you there...

  • There are two "Denver Show"'s at the National Western Complex each year and the Springs show which is pretty good, along with the little Aurora show 4 times, the Golden show 4 times, Cheyenne, 2x Longmont, Ft Collins, Greeley, and maybe a couple other. 16+ a year is not bad for the greater Denver area I think.
