86-87 Fleer Sticker Question

I bought a Magic Johnson PSA 9 (ST) at an auction last year and it is a headscratcher to me what they would call a stain (sorry I don't have a scan). I've noticed this on another auction on ebay with the same card. Are these cards very stain prone (if that's a word)? The Fleer experts your knowledge would be really appreciated.

Thanks

  • 99% likely it is wax which can still possibly be removed.
  • The 86, 87, 88 the stickers were 99.9% of the time were the last card in the pack which got the wax stain. the wax is easily removed by using a nylon sock.

the 87 stickers were not on the backs of the packs.

But yes, every 86 Fleer sticker is on the back of the wax pack, therefore getting a wax stain. About 10 years ago, I tried subbing some really sharp and nicely centered 86 Fleer stickers after I had tried removing the stains. I used a clothesdryer sheet, and thought the cards looked pretty good.

    I subbed 8 stickers, got 6 8's and 2 9 (ST).

All my 9 NQ stickers were purchased already slabbed.
  • Thanks guys. I might crack it and try using some nylon to get rid of the invisible stain.
  • A nylon usually does the trick!
    Good luck
