My new favorite Ebay buyer

Sold about $300 worth of cards to a low feedback buyer 3 weeks ago. The auction is all done and paid for except for this one buyer. He has emailed 3 times asking for my address so he can send a MO. The third time I answered him with my address, I said to please let me know that he got my response. He confirmed it, MO is going out the next morning. 5 days later I get payment from him, in the form of a starter check. I'm putting the odds at about 9-2 that it will clear, anyone think otherwise?
From what I can tell, 707 is the DOLLAR STORE compared to deans_cards. For what that guy charges, if I ever bought anything from him I would expect it to be delivered to me in a frickin' limo.

I think it will be OK....just wait around 2-3 weeks before you ship!....

    Sounds like a bad check.

    Might be good, tho.

I would have sent the check back and asked for a MO.

Checks should clear much faster now. There is only one FRB processing center now (Cleveland), all checks are now considered "local" and hold times have been reduced to 2 business days.

  • Some banks will send the check electronically and it will almost instantly clear.

It's probably just some 16 yr old kid who got his first job at McDonalds and just opened his first bank account. I'd just give him the benefit of the doubt until he wrongs you. Remember we all had to start somewhere.

That being said if his check does bounce slam him as hard as possible with the hammer of justice and give him a harsh lesson of financial responsibility and spending within your means! Who knows he might turn out to be Secretary of the Treasury one day...
