I have been playing with my new digital camera and took these pictures
of some coins from the former Portuguese colonies.

I acquired them in the 1960's from California coin dealer foreign coin boxes.

Nice stuff - the Portuguese colonies are one of my real real darkside interests - I have a couple of BU Portuguese Guinea coins from 1930, but most of my interest in Portuguese colonies so far is restricted to paper money as of now. But I really do collect the early 20th century minors when I can find them in BU.

Portuguese colonials was one of the first sets I seriously went after... now I'm selling off the last of the cheapos.

I always liked how the bronzes look in BU though, great satin shine with a shade of orange different from most other bronze out there.

And the Cabo series is definitely a highlight! image

Nice pix. I came across the Port. Colonies when I was organizing my want list for the OFEC 1953 set and found especially the 1950s designs (actually used with some variation from the 1940s thru the 1970s in some places) on silvers very appealing. Simple, modern designs that embody a ton of history. After looking at your pix, I've decided to look for a few of the less expensive examples from the 6 or so colonies that issued during this period just because.

Thanks for sharing and sparking a new interest.
