Question about Cut Autographs

I just noticed this on ebay. It's a Johnny Unitas cut autograph from 2009 Topps Sterling



My question is, which one would you prefer.....that one, or this one:



Personally, I much prefer the second one.

I for one, am sick and tired of card companies taking nice autographed items, and cutting them up to make an INFERIOR product!!!!!

The postcard does look a lot nicer since it is complete but the only good thing about a cut autograph is that you are pretty much guaranteed that the autograph is real and not a fake. You have the card manufacturer to back you up as being legit. If I saw the postcard at a show from a dealer i did not know or even on ebay I can not be sure it is real even if they have a COA which to me is completley useless because if I am going to fake an autograph I will most likely fake a COA as well.

agreed. I think this trend only helps to improve the value of complete autographed items and/or memorbilia as card companies creatively lower the supply of those items.

I believe Upper Deck got caught on a few cuts that weren't authentic. Of course, UD is the same company that cut up one of its own autographed insert cards and used the auto as a limited "cut" which seems to trivialize a true "cut" auto.

I know that this has been said many times before...but the only way to make sure an autograph is real is to watch the person sign it in front of you. I have always wondered if they deem autos fake which are actully real. Maybe the signer was having a bad day and signed it differently. My signature is sometimes a bit different (then again I don't charge for my autograph since no one wants in anyways.)
