Home Buy, Sell & Trade - World & Ancient Coins

Unique opportunity for collectors who want historic visuals to go with their coins.

Bonjour!image

To all of you who love the historical details of their coins and appreciate
design details of the period they were minted in, have I got 2 books for you!

2 Oversize books, 12" x 14" x 2", published in Paris in 1866.

These books contain the most intricate visualisations in superb steel plate engravings
of architectural exterior and interior design elements of famous French buildings, statuary
and artwork, as well as size and proportional information relating to construction.

Want to see the ceiling of the Louvre in detail, perhaps the ornate chimney that kept Napoleon warm,
perhaps the detail from the cornice of a building from Charles X?
Statuary re-creation of famous historical events?
These are your books.

200 plates so detailed they leap off the page, almost 3D!
There is no coin collector so jaded that they will not appreciate and treasure these tomes.

The bindings/cases show heavy wear. Volume I has chipped spine leather.
Its text block is just about completely separated from its case.
The text block of volume two is completely separated from its case.
The important part, the contents, are virtually spotless. Only the light occasional browning/foxing.

I post this here before selling these books on eBay because I can't imagine anyone owning them
who won't appreciate them the way a coin collector might.

$300 + shipping buys both volumes. If you want more images I stand ready to take more.
Please PM me any questions.

    Looks like a neat set!
    Erm.. what's the title? image

Are there any drawings of this part of the Louvre ceiling? I was always the boob staring at the ceiling while everyone else was glancing at the walls in this room. I forget which room it was, somewhere on ground floor in the middle.

No, not that specific spot, I think...
But here's the ceiling of Henri IV's bedroom in the louvre:

Or a delecroix from the Galerie D'Appollon au Louvre

or, well, you get the idea. 200 steel plate engravings on that wonderfully heavy mid-1860's paper.

I'm always the boob who's never been anywhere close to Europe let alone the Louvre, or that room. image

    Go, Go!

    And bring your metal detector!

And when you come back, let the freshly-dug treasures
spill out of the vintage roughsack all over the table
and take many fine images to share with us.image

    Maybe even, split the loot!image

Oh, believe me, I dream of it all the time. Take up a collection and pass the hat for "Send LordM to Europe". I'll give you some worthy tales, even if I have to make 'em up. imageimage

The detector would be mounted on my hip at all times while on that side of the pond. Even while I slept.
