Has it ever occurred to you after getting an Item on ebay that you were willing to pay more for that "thing" than anyone else in the world?

Far from correct. The main weakness of ebay is that real buyers don't know when to look for the item you're selling. There may be a dozen people in the US looking for Widget Alpha. They check ebay occasionally and none shows up. You don't know they are checking and you're busy with various other things. But you have one you're going to sell eventually. You pick a good weekend between football season and March Madness and let it rip. But 3 of the 12 buyers are skiing. One goes to a wedding that week and 2 are in hawaii. PCGS has a convention in LV that 2 of them are at. Some have just given up looking. The one guy that sees it on ebay bids $3000 because he really wants it. None of the other buyers see it so the underbidder is a dealer who doesn't have a buyer for it so he is willing to put it in stock at half that. He bids $1500 and it sells for $1525.

If any of the 11 other buyers had seen it, they too would have bid at least $3K but they didn't.

Heritage only has a half dozen auctions per year so all the buyers are checking there and if one does show up, it will go for $3000....

There's a bit of luck in getting at least two very interested buyers to look before the auction ends.

No but it has occured to me that I was willing to pay more for that "thing" than anybody else in the world that was currently bidding on it or that knew it was for sale.............at that time.

Maybe, or 7 day listings with a 60 day searchable previewing period with prebid options--oh, that's the Heritage model. They might want royalties. --Jerry

Lately, most of my ebay buying has been non-coin, BIN items. I get what I want, at the price I am willing to pay.

Ditto. Type in what I'm looking for and then resort by lowest price plus shipping.

I store searchs for six months at a time for the items I really want and eBay emails me when you list it.
Hope those guys goofing off don't check thier email.

I actually intended this more in a humourous vein, I should have posted the "humour" sign. But since we have taken this route, don't you think that the "real" buyers utilize the search system? I do, I've had items come up that have been in my auto search for 18 months. I have wide range searches I run most days and then about 25 auto searches that are more esoteric, I don't think I miss much. Where I "score" is when things have been listed omitting key words. An auction here is probably no different than an auction anywhere, an item that goes for $499 this week can go for $1499 the next week, then because the two main bidders have one the third guy picks up the last one for $299.

thats funny, cuz I kinda figure over half the stuff I buy is worth more than what I paid for it on the day I got it


but I find stuff that sellers do not know what they have and in the wrong location/grouping
