missleading title i know but ive read about bad owners of sports card shops, i just wanted to say i had a good experience with mine here locally, walked in to buy 2 hobby boxes , he discounted the boxes enough to pay the tax on them and gave me 17 free topps million give away cards, also a 2009 football rookie set and a bunch of penny sleeves,, not bad for someone who was just going to walk in , buy and walk out, the guy was nice, some i guess are good and some are bad,, just sayin,,, bj

Obviously the guy wants you to come back - I hope he achieved that.
Thanx for sharing.
all 3 of my local card shops treat me like that. Granted, I've signed some paychecks over to them but they do treat me right

<< <i>I have been in shops where the owners are exactly like the comic store guy from the Simpsons. That show does not exaggerate even a little bit. One time I was in the store and someone come in to ask how much his cards were worth. He had a small pile of 1989-1992 cards and they were garbage but instead of telling the person that he was sorry but they were worth very little he told the guy that he might as well take them home and use them as toilet paper. The guy got upset and walked out. If he were nicer maybe the guy would of dropped some money and bought some stuff but instead he will never go back in to that store. After he left the owner said he hates when people come in to ask how much their cards are worth and that he usually charges $50.00 an hour for appraisals. I think he picked the worng profession then. He is the only store in a 50 mile radius so I guess customer service is not needed. Still he wonders why business is so slow. >>
I wonder how long this guy will stay in business with that attitude.
How about a bit of humility?
I'd like to have a shop and just enjoy myself talking with customers and sharing my thoughts on sports and collectibles!
I wouldn't even care if I made alot of money.
Note to self...
How about a card shop?

I Agree, I feel a card shop is where you could go to hang out and discuss cards and see box breaks live and talk to people about our hobby. His menatlity is that you only come in to buy and then get out after your purchase. I understand if the prices are a little higher because they have to pay alot of overhead (rent, electricity, etc...) but be nice to the people there. I see a lot of peole at the monthly shows that only go in there if they have to pick up supplies and can't wait until the next month's show. Too bad, because being the only game in town he could make a killing. I would open up a shop but I would have trouble selling the good cards. I would want to keep them for myself and would be out of business in a week.
