Latest collection purchase (photo intensive)

Hey guys, just picked up a really neat collection and since I have no friends or family that gives a rip about cards, thought I'd share it with the board again. Almost completely comprised of stars and rookies, enjoy the pics.

Very nice. Those CS1s with the bar-code stickers on them, I've seen those around. What dealer does that?

The corners are a little soft, probably will grade out as VG-EX

My daughter was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 2 (2003). My son was diagnosed with Type 1 when he was 17 on December 31, 2009. We were stunned that another child of ours had been diagnosed. Please, if you don't have a favorite charity, consider giving to the JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation)

Awesome stuff, I like the grade variation throughout. When selling I found its good to have a mix of grades as not everyone can afford PSA 9 HOFs.

If your interested in moving the 52 Jackie or 52 Mays let me know!

That is one AWESOME pickup. Someone else said it, but I love the spread of graded and ungraded - a little something for every eye.

For obvious reasons, I have suspicions with that card. I'm guessing it was trimmed, but can't tell without busting it out.

  • This is a very nice collection. Tell me something, did these pictures come with the collection or did you arrange them neatly for the purpose of displaying them here? I ask because I'm always interested in those who like to display and promote their material things vs those who are merely happy about what they have and don't care if anyone else knows? I've actually done research into this phenomenon and the psychological needs of some for validation through this kind of expression.

    Anyway, nice cards.

Do I get paid for participating in this study? jk. For me, one of the most enjoyable parts of this hobby is the camaraderie and sharing of material between collectors. For me, my favorite threads on this board are when other collectors share their cards, hobby rooms, stories, etc. Also, as I originally stated, my wife and other family members have zero interest in cards, and think I'm a quack for collecting them, so these boards and emails between collectors are my only avenue to help me feel normal.

So does the cardboard itself or the experiences and people of the hobby drive my passion?? Good question, I guess I couldn't have one without the other.

  • Very nice Steve. Great player selection.
Collecting PSA graded Steve Young, Marcus Allen, Bret Saberhagen and 1980s Topps Cards.
Raw: Tony Gonzalez (low #'d cards, and especially 1/1's) and Steve Young.
  • My wife calls me a nerd instead of a quack. I did buy her engagement ring with funds from selling cards so she's not at a total loss when it comes to cards' value. What's funny is she knows I'm not a nerd at all... but because of my card collecting she calls me a nerd. Would love to hear the story on this find/collection as well. Great stuff! Stories & photos of finds, hobby rooms, etc. are also my favorite part of these boards and collecting as well. Keep up the good work Curt.

Yeah, I'm not holding my breath on the Clemente. However, I recently bought a collection that had about 15-20 Pro graded cards, and all but two crossed over fine (a grade or two lower of course), but you'd be surprised how many collectors out there don't understand the differences and risks involved between the different grading companies and opt to choose Pro due to the lower costs and higher grades.

That's a great answer. And thanks for sharing the photos. While I no longer purchase baseball card, I do enjoy looking and seeing the passion collectors have.

My passion is collecting pre-war soccer cards now. While I may not find a passionate audience on this message board, I think many collectors can appreciate all sports and sport history. It is also about expanding horizons -
