Rim Dings...can they sometimes be repaired? (Pictures Added)

I just received a Morgan dollar that is a nice AU except for a rim Ding. I almost looks like it could be tapped down to make it less noticeable and possibly get it into a PCGS holder.
Has anyone ever repaired a rim ding with successful results?

Rim dings = scrap silver unless the coin is key, semi key or somehow rare.
I'd think you'd be left with a depression in the rim surrounded by obverse and reverse flat spots.
However, give it a shot and post the results.

Genuine/Details holder if sent into a TPG.
IMO, any flattening or tapping on that coin would most certainly crush the dentils before having any affect on the actual ding. I think you'd just end up with a coin that not only has a ding, but also has flat spots on the edge.

Correct. It would be sorta like using a wire brush or an angle grinder to remove toning. Yeah it'll remove the toning alright..... but.....
un acceptable to most collectors. Such displacement is not the same as good
honest wear. I know of no way that this feat can be accomplished ,without
leaving a worse appearing coin.

It is not "a nice AU."
They can even repair holed coins to the point that you have
to look really hard to see if anything has been done to the coin, and
many would not be able to detect the repair.
I don't think there is anything wrong with repairing a coin as long
as you don't try to sell it as a non-repaired coin. A repaired coin
should never "fool" a TPG and get into a clean slab. The coin you posted in
the OP does not fall into this class as the repair would cost more than the coin is worth.
<< <i>The coin has been harshly cleaned/polished. It will never get into a PCGS holder. The fact that you thought there was a chance that it could be slabbed by PCGS tells me that you need to step back from buying and learn how to detect various types of cleaning. >>
I guess that you need to step back from posting and learn about the new PCGS genuine slab.

<< <i>Theres an interesting mark going from the star across to the U AND N , may i ask if anyone can comment on that ? What caused that? Thanks >>
That's a die crack.
