My '33 Goudey Ruth

Bought it when I was 16 years old. Everything in my entire collection is raw. I think it's in pretty good shape...it's got good eye appeal for me at least. One of my favorites.

<< <i>Nice red "X" >>
Shows up fine here. I'm hosting it at uploader.ws
Maybe that's blocked where you are? Anyone else having issues? If so, I'll upload it somewhere else.
Edited to add: The properties are saying that the type is a text/html instead of JPEG image.

<< <i>I couldn't see it until I opened up the properties of the photo and copied and pasted that in my browser which is how I downloaded and then uploaded it to my Photobucket account and posted the image above. >>
Weird. Sorry....that's the only free host I knew of. Thanks for reposting the image though.

<< <i>Very nice card! Why don't you grade anything? >>
Honestly? It's a stupid reason, but I have so much sentimental value in the cards (that I'd actually spend the money to grade) that I'm terrified in losing them in the mail. I haven't worked up enough courage to mail cards that I can't replace. I wish they did on-site, same day, "right-in-front-of-you" grading at shows, but keep dreaming, right? haha. I'm sure I'll get them graded at some point. I have three Mantles that are absolutely stunning (60, 61, and 66), but I can't get good pictures of them without removing them from their screw down holders (there are always glares in the pictures). When I send them in and put them in Card Saver I's, I'll try to scan them.

Be careful with the screw down holders. I was going to buy a few cards in screw downs until we took them out of the holders and realized the cards had been
flattened and the surface area was no longer uniform. Hope yours are OK.
Nice RUTH by the way.

I think if you really want it and are willing to pay you can get on-site same day (but not right in front of you) grading at shows. Pretty sure they do that at the National and another show in Illinois.

Wow, that's scary. Everything I own (worthwhile) is in a screwdown holder.

Wow, that's scary. Everything I own (worthwhile) is in a screwdown holder.
I think the real danger is in the older screwdowns that did NOT have a recessed space for the card. I've seen vintage cards in those where the card peels away when you try to remove the screws and slab. Not a good thing. If the holder is recessed, you're likely OK.

Yes, unfortunately. lol. I guess it's natural to be afraid/skeptical of something you've never done though. Once I make a submission and get it back, I'm sure it won't be as big of a deal anymore.

Most of mine don't have the recessed space.
I'm going to remove them tonight. Seriously.

<< <i>get those out of the screwdowns that aren't recessed!! >>
That's my project for tonight.
I'll try to post some scans of my favorites when I can. Thanks for the kind words and help.

Your a real collector, Keep it and all your cards RAW, .................... Unless you ever plan on selling
PS your R319 #149 card is a good example on showing what to look for on IDing many reprints, look how the red strip at bottom is slightly wider than the background (also red in this case), all authentic cards are like this, most reprint will have the edges of the photo cropped and the strip will be the same exact width as the background.
<< <i>Nice clean VG/EX and would fit into any R319 set

Very good to know! Thanks.
Always interesting to me how people who dont use PSA, end up on the PSA boards....
screwdown holders = worst invention of the 70's
I wish I was that smart with my card purchases when I was 16. Great looking card.

<< <i>For what it's worth, to anyone nervous about submitting cards to grading services (and I'm referring here only to PSA and SGC, which are the only services used by Heritage--no experience with the others), we submit thousands of cards a year and never have had an issue. I mean, sure, every once in a while we may not agree upon a grade, but in terms of loss, card switching or any other fear of that nature, it just doesn't happen. At least not in our experience. >>
Nice to know! Thanks.
