Olympic tragedy

Just terrible.

Nobody expected this on such an event. They should investigate carefully and make sure the track is indeed safe. What I keep hearing is that this track is the fastest in the world. It could be some athletes were not prepared for this kind of track.

  • the setup of the track is ridiculous.
Those posts, poles are not padded, there is no netting (for the TV cameras)

Safety was sacraficed for tv ratings.

    I smell big cash settlement.

I think you have a point VCL, but only an engineer can truely attest to that. I doubt we will hear the real truth because there is a liability issue.
Nothing will replace the young man from Georgia, but I am sure a cash settlement with the family will occur. Track officials are already arguing that it was not a track error but an athlete error. No matter, because there is public sympathy, the accident was televised, it happened during the Olympics, therefore, I am sure compensation will be given to the family. It would simply reflect poorly on Canada and the Olympics if that did not happen--legal issues aside.
