Just listened to an NPR Interview with Willie Mays

Evening,
Driving home tonight, listened to a very good interview on NPR with Willie Mays. He seemed like a very nice person and likes his Fans, trying to figure out why he then charges $300 bucks for an Autograph, (As has been mentioned on these Boards) putting it out of reach of most of his Fans?
Huh?

Unfortunately, he didn't make the big bucks while he was playing. Guys with a third of his talent make 20 mil a year nowadays. I think his auto is worth what he asks.

I don't. Actually Willie has been a jerk the two times I have seen him sign at shows. I'm talking 25 years ago when he was asking $60 an auto. As a Giant fan who grew up in the Bay Area, Willie and Mac were my big heros. Of course I had others as the Giants had some great players in the 60's. We went to a lot of games.
As I would talk to McCovey and ask about certain games, he would laugh and interact with his fans. When I had a lineup card autographed, he took the time to look and comment on the game. Mays wouldn't even look up to acknowledge anyone's presence. He seem to mumble more than anything, that is if he choose to speak. Great player, lousey personality. I think $300 is way out of line, just like $60 was 25 years ago.

Willie Mays = one heck of a baseball player and a first class jerk! Hows that for a compliment and a slam in the same sentence.
