Are the Olympic rings color-coded for each continent?

Now, Wikipedia makes it sound like the five colored rings don't each represent a continent, just like how on the US flag, a specific state is NOT assigned to a specific star/stripe (at least not officially). Yet I could've sworn during the 1996 Olympics opening ceremony, they DID do a big dance show of some kind where they did have each color represent a different continent as follows:

Blue: Europe
Yellow: Asia
Green: Africa
Black: Australia/Oceania
Red: North/South America

So does each color ring represent specific continents or not?

    When I was in elementary school in 1984, we did class projects with an olympic theme because the games were going to be in Los Angeles (in my backyard).

    yellow= Asia (includes Australia)
    Blue = Europe
    Black = Africa
    Green = South America
    Red = North America

    I might have gotten North and South America reversed, but this is what we were taught. It was easy to remember the Asian and African colored ring because we were taught it reflected the skin color of the majority people in those continents (can you believe that?).

    The colors represent the participating countries.

    Simply put, each participating country's flag, has at least one of the five colors in it.

    The five rings represent the five continents that the athletes come from.

    Yeah, but it really should be 6 (I will assume Anarctica does not have a team). Then it would look like the rings to a 6-pack!
