What is the most valuable card featuring a person alive today?

I am currently snowed in and was thinking about this earlier. My first thoughs immediately went to 1952 Topps #1 Pafko Black Back but there has to be one higher in value. Anything goes, any sport, any set, any player (alive) and any grade. It is probably a rare variation that is only known in low grade. But opinions would be nice.

What about that PSA 10 1962 Koufax? Or maybe a relic card that includes a living person on it, along with the likes of Ruth, Gehrig, etc? Tough question. The BGS Pristine 1986 Jordan R.C. should not count, at least for last sale amount, b/c we all agree that dude overpaid.

  • The one and only 79-80 OPC Gretzky rookie PSA 10 $80,000.00 in 2006. I think it sold again for $100,000.00 though... not sure. image

Ok, according to SMR "The only PSA Gem Mint 10 Pafko sold for $250,000 in 2007" So that is the number to beat. I personally cannot think of anything greater but hypothetical cards such as 1962 topps psa 10 koufax would count, but would it fetch $250,000?

Regarding the Jordan, I don't think you can say that "we all" agree that he overpaid. I personally would not have paid that much, but its a unique situation with that card and I would not criticize the buyer for what he paid.....unless and until more cards with that grade surface. Its not a given that will happen. I know this topic has been beaten to death on other threads already though.
