Pac 10 Hoops

Ok, yes this is basically a joke thread. My gosh, is this the worst Pac 10 season EVER!? I started following college hoops in the mid 70's, when it was still the Pac-8, and I just don't remember such a dreadful year. I am a UCLA fan and they are HORRIBLE but nobody is running away with the conference. Could be just ONE Pac-10 team in the tourney!? ONE! I think we had 7 a couple years ago. Amazing!

    Maybe they need to expand?

Adding Gonzaga to the Pac 10 might improve the conference - if only in basketball.

Sagarin Computer Rankings currently has Pac-10 as 6th Best Conference in NCAA Basketball.
I collect Vintage Cards, Commemorative Sets, and way too many vintage and modern player collections in Baseball (180 players), Football (175 players), and Basketball (87 players). Also have a Dallas Cowboy team collection.
  • the ivy league may have more bids than the pac 10
  • Your thread title would correspond more with your original post if you would have substituted the word "football" instead
    of Hoops. image

In all seriousness, the Pac 10 performs pretty well across the board. I would imagine they have more championships than any other conference but it's in the sports nobody cares about (vollyball, water polo, etc...). Edmund, you can go look that up if you disagree.

Also, I really think the Pac 10 needs to consider expanding (then add a conf football championship) and I think Utah and BYU make the most sense. They would be competitive, from day 1, in all the major sports.

If the Pac 10 does expand, Utah and BYU do make the most sense.

In the same way that Arizona and Arizona State made sense when the Pac 8 expanded to the Pac 10 about 30 years ago.

The teams in the Pac 8 and now Pac 10 are teams which consist of the premier, major universities in states located in the Pacific time zone.
No other schools in the Western US would "fit" in with the Pac 10 better than Utah and BYU. These two schools are the premier universities in Utah and have a long standing tradition of academic and athletic excellence across a wide range of majors and sports.

Schools in other Western states fall short, including those schools in Alaska, Hawaii, Nevada, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado and New Mexico. Of the schools in these states the University Of Colorado would be the closest "fit" with the Pac 10 after Utah and BYU. However, Colorado is in the Big 12 [and probably would not move out of that conference] and one does not equate Boulder, Colorado with the Pacific coast.

Gonzaga, Idaho, Idaho State, Boise State [though you must give props to its football program], Montana, Montana State, University Of Wyoming, Colorado State University, University of New Mexico, New Mexico State University, Hawaii University, UNLV, University Of Nevada Reno and the colleges in Alaska just do not seem to belong in the same category as USC, Cal, UCLA, Stanford, Oregon, Oregon State, Washington, Washington State, Arizona and ASU.

I'm not trying to refute your well-made greater point, but Arizona and Utah are actually in the Mountain Time Zone. The only western states in the Pacific Time Zone are Washington, most of Oregon, California, Nevada and a small portion of Northern Idado.

Arizona is in the Pacific Time Zone half the year, right!? image

We will have to change Utah's clocks to pacific. Not many people there anyway!
