My weekend adventure thenavarro for charity mechanical bullriding videos

I know this is the Sports Cards & Memorabilia Forum, but I thought I'd share some vidoes from my weekend as it's occasionally fun to see what people do outside of the forum. I've been the Board Treasurer since 1999 for our local Children's Advocacy Center (Gingerbread House), and every year we hold a Chili Cook off/ Barn Dance/ Silent Auction/ Mechanical Bullriding/ raffle event to benefit our center. We typically net $20,000 to $35,000 for our non-profit 501(c)(3) organization. Here's some of the videos from the preliminaries Friday night of our bullriding competition. I'm the old, fat guy on the men's side (it's labeled). I did manage to finish 7th out of 20 on Friday night and made the finals last night image Didn't do too well last night though, but it was all fun and was for a good cause. My bruises are BIG. The bull looks slow in the videos, but it sure doesn't feel that way when you are on it.

Men's side

Women's side

I'm not going to solicit funds for the Center here, but if you are inclined just contact me and I'll let you know how to donate.

Take care,

Mike

Here's the inevitable carnage from a few practice rounds, prelims and the finals, doesn't really hurt too much, just looks bad:

Here's my 6 year old daughter Maven (whom y'all have seen in some pack opening threads), enjoying a turn on the bull.

    Cool Mike.

At my age, something like that could be lethal. image

Sounds like it was a ton of fun Mike!!

The bullrider controller always kills the dudes and has a way to make the girls ride a lil extra image

Looks like a pretty good turnout for the charity!

Do you still do cards for the kids? I got alot of fun non sports wax they could bust, lmk

Hey Mike .... at least your bruise matches the bull! LOL Very nice of you to donate your time to raise money for a good cause. GOOD LUCK!

Edited to ask: There is no way in hell that guy's real name was REX REXRODE, right?
    STAY HEALTHY!

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.

Yep, I still do cards for the kids, but I do those for the Salvation Army, for the kids at the Advocacy Center, we love to be able to give them a flashlight (most of the victims of sexual abuse love the lights as they are afraid of the things that happen in the dark) and stuffed animals. Board member MBMiller sent me several flashlights one year that the kids absolutely loved. I'll shoot you a PM.

Did that once for a charity, too. There wasn't any bruising, but I had a tough time walking after a long ride as the pressure you have to exert to squeeze your legs over even a 30 second ride drains them. And they were a bit sore the next day! The only thing I've ever felt that was similar was the burning and weakness in my thighs after skiing serious powder for the first time. Even 15 years of wrestling didn't drain me as much as that bull ride.
  • I once offered to pay for a buddy to get on a mechanical bull. Some of the best money I have ever spent!
