Edge view holders

As you know NGC offer edge view holders but I know a lot of collectors aren't pleased with the NGC edge holders as they cover part of the obverse and reverse so its not ideal when photographing. How about a simple but better solution like.

What do you guys think of the above?

Anybody have any other ideas?

Necessity is the mother of invention and I congratulate you on trying to improve the way coins are displayed in TPG holders. With that said:
Moving parts break and having the coin sit higher than the rest of the slab will cause storage problems and surface scratches and damage.
But I really do like what you are going for, so perhaps my logic is flawed. It wouldn't be the first nor the last time that has happened.

How about the protruding slab Mark 2.



Four raised areas at the corners which protrude further than the coin so if you do lay it down on a flat surface you wont scratch the part displaying the coin? Of course a scratch proof or resistant slab would be handy.

There was a company called DCGS (I believe that they were convicted of fraud) that designed a slab that showed the edge of the coin as you depict. The bottom of the slab had legs running perpendicular to the slab so that it could stand. Similar!

I live in the UK, never heard of DCGS or seen their slabs but there must be an easy answer to this edge view problem.

Howabout this? Rubberized plastic around the central capsule allows it to be pushed in and out. Would probably be horrendously expensive, but could work.

I like the coin in capsule that swivels around... That would kick some major butt right there!

Thanks Todd. I like it too but WWW has pointed out, it would need to be made quite robustly (including the locking mechanism) as it would be easy to brake otherwise.

I think these guys may be onto something. From what I hear, their "Halo360" holder is pretty cool!

I don't like it... takes away from the coin itself... Cool idea though and I applaud them for trying something new but not for me..

That would be handy for photographing as you would get the edge in one shot. If you didn't want the edge you could crop the picture.

There already is an edge view slab.

There actually is a slab that does this, from Taiwan I believe. Unfortunately, I can't seem to find the photo right now.
